How to Install a Ceiling Fan with Light – Step-by-Step Guide

Posted by JSAITEE | July 2025

Installing a ceiling fan with light might seem like a task best left to professionals — but with the right tools and instructions, many homeowners can do it themselves. This guide will walk you through a safe and simple installation process.

⚠️ Note: Always turn off the power at the breaker before installation. If you're unsure, consult a licensed electrician.

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Phillips screwdriver

  • Adjustable wrench or pliers

  • Ladder

  • Voltage tester

  • Wire nuts and electrical tape

  • Drill (optional)

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

Go to your circuit breaker and turn off power to the ceiling fan location. Use a voltage tester to make sure no electricity is flowing before starting.

Step 2: Remove the Old Fixture

If replacing an old ceiling light or fan:

  • Remove the light cover and bulbs

  • Unscrew the fixture from the mounting bracket

  • Disconnect the wires and take the fixture down

Step 3: Install the Mounting Bracket

Use the screws provided to secure the new mounting bracket to your ceiling’s electrical box.
Make sure the box is fan-rated and securely attached to the ceiling joist.

Step 4: Assemble the Fan

Depending on your model, assemble the fan blades and light kit on the ground:

  • Attach the fan blades to the motor housing

  • Connect the light kit if it’s a combined unit

  • Route the wires through the downrod (if using one)

Tip: JSAITEE fans are designed for quick-lock blade systems to save you time.

Step 5: Connect the Wires

Match and connect the wires as follows:

  • Black (or red) = Fan power

  • White = Neutral

  • Blue = Light power

  • Green or bare = Ground

Secure each connection with wire nuts and wrap with electrical tape for safety.

Step 6: Attach Fan to Bracket

Lift the assembled fan to the mounting bracket. Depending on the model:

  • Use the hanging hook (if included) to hold the fan while you wire it

  • Secure the fan base to the bracket using screws

Step 7: Attach the Light Fixture (if separate)

Some fans come with a detachable light kit. Connect the wires and secure the light fixture to the fan motor base.

Install bulbs if necessary and cover with the included glass shade.

Step 8: Install the Remote or App Control

If your fan uses a remote receiver, insert it above the mounting bracket.
For app-controlled fans, follow the instruction manual to sync your fan with WiFi or Bluetooth.

Step 9: Restore Power and Test

Turn the breaker back on and test the fan:

  • Check that fan speeds adjust correctly

  • Ensure light modes (cool/natural/warm) work

  • Test reverse airflow (if DC motor)

  • Try remote or app control

Final Tips:

  • Always double-check screws and wire connections

  • Clean fan blades before use to avoid dust flying

  • If anything feels unstable, stop and consult a professional

Where can I find the installation video for model SY68?

Tracy Meyer

My operations manual has been misplaced. I need to get another if possible. Thank You.

I purchasef 4 jsaitee SY66 fans from Amazon. I am 1 minute away from returning all 4 model SY66 fans to Amazon. Directions are not clear for installing [E] Expansion Screws. I could find NO videos demonstrating the installation of this model. Need help ASAP or these things are going back.

Julie

I lost my instruction manual. I’m not sure what model it is either.
